I found out today, Friday 13th of all days, that I have been offered a position with a company called Mobile Armor. They do security software for smart phones and computers both notebook and desktop. A really great sounding company really.

Word on the street is that I will be starting on July 1st, but depending on Mobile Armor, it could be sooner. I can start at any time, myself.

I will be helping the company test their software and make sure that it’s working as good as possible so that users won’t find any nasty surprises later. At least that is the plan.

This has been a tough search, but not as tough as my last search after being laid off. I was 8 months without a job then, this time it was 7 months. I was a little slower getting started looking for a job since I have been recovering from Ulcerative Colitis (rather unsettling picture on linked page). I’ve still been getting sick from it, but I’m learning what I can and can not eat to avoid having relapses. Until these last few days, I have been feeling pretty healthy for about 4 weeks. The longest run in quite some time. I know what I ate to cause this last relapse to occur, so I know what to avoid, but there are probably other foods that will do me in.

Since I have had this illness, I have lost just a little over 70 lbs. It started Aug. 2007, 11 months ago, so I have been losing weight rather slowly. Which is the way one is supposed to lose weight. However, I need to be able to stop losing weight when I get to the weight I want which is just under 200. Anyway, that’s off topic.

I was actually not sure I was going to get this job. April 17th was my first interview with Mobile Armor. The interview went pretty well, and I felt pretty comfortable with the folks I was talking to. I felt that they seemed to like me. So I found out the next week that one of the folks that started the company wanted to talk to me for a few minutes on the phone as a second interview. So I called him and we had a great conversation. I think I impressed him with my self motivation and my previous job history. I really felt that I had this job. I heard from the recruiters that found the job for me that I was going to be offered the position, so I was all ready to go, but I didn’t hear anything else after that. I thought that I had done something wrong, but it turned out that they had some issues with funding and had to wait a while to continue.

I got the call last Friday that the company was still interested in me which really lifted my spirits. Then I got the call today that an offer letter was being sent today and we’ll be working out when I will be starting. It looks like it might be July 1st, but that was only the recruiters feeling. I’ll find out soon enough. I’m just thrilled that I finally have a new job.

So, now I just need to stay healthy for longer than a month…

OK, I have to admit, not having comments in posts on other sites is just annoying. It’s up to the author and I fully support what they want, but it sure doesn’t lend itself well to discussions.

So I ahve restored comments here. Posts that didn’t have comments on will probably stay that way since it’s difficult to change the settings on the posts. It’s not impossible, but I would have to find them and change them. Not really worth it.

I do have comments set so that I have to approve them before they are displayed. I just want to make sure that they clean and not spam. Akismet is a great comment spam blocker and it does an excellent job of catching them. I just want to make perfectly sure.

I don’t often agree with Mr. Gruber and Daring Fireball, but boy do I agree with him on this topic: The Ringtones Racket!

During Apple’s press event introducing the new iPods, Steve Jobs told all the Apple Zombies in the audience that iTunes would sell ringtones for way less than other vendors. The audience went nuts, as it usually does when God (Mr. Jobs) says just about anything. Yes, you can buy ringtones from the iTunes Store for the low everyday cost of $1.98! Even if you already own the CD that the song you want to make a ringtone out of, you “have” to buy it from the iTunes Store in order to turn it into a ringtone. This is quite a racket indeed. First you bought a CD, then you have to spend 99¢ to buy the song again, so that you can then pay yet another 99¢ for the privilege of cropping out as much as 30 seconds of that song to make a ringtone.

Mr. Gruber says that we should feel no remorse in making our own ringtones and using tools like like MakeiPhoneRingtone or iToner to move the ringtones to the iPhone. I fully agree which is why I purchased iToner. I probably would have used the free MakeiPhoneRingtone tool, but it wasn’t out when I purchased iToner. I don’t really mind. Ambrosia Software did a great job with iToner and is well worth letting them know it buy giving them $15. Plus, I would much prefer giving $15 to Ambrosia Software then 99¢ to the RIAA!

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the RIAA needs to get their act together. If they don’t I get the feeling that they are going to lose more and more musicians over time to produce and promote their own music rather than selling their soul to the RIAA. At least that is what I personally hope will happen.
