Man, it hasn’t taken very long for these to start showing up! I just found a really nasty looking website that claims to be giving away free iPhone apps if you give them your phone number and a PIN. I found it via YouTube in what appeared to be a review of an iPhone game.
** NEVER ** (I can’t highlight that word enough) give out your phone number to a web site or any company unless you are certain that they are legitimate. Once someone has your phone number, they can do all kinds of unpleasant things with it including charging your cell provider (which in turn charges you) weekly/monthly fees.
The site I found claims that they will send you the app you want via a text message. This is not how Apple installs apps on the iPhone. I can only assume that the site is a scamming site and should be avoided at all costs.
So my advice to anyone looking at a website asking for the number of your phone, is to close out the site right away on move on to the next site on your list of sites to visit.
It’s really sad how scammer prey on people. It’s a good thing that the apps for the iPhone are not very expensive or sites like these might actually get quite a few people to bite. Happily, $9.99 is not that much money for some great gaming software that really looks fantastic one a mobile phone.
Anyway, be warned!

My favorite password keeper / data encryption utility is going native to the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you use 1Password on your Mac, you are going to want to get this App Store app as soon as it comes out. There is a great write up and set of screen shots over at Agile Web Solutions website. The best part about this is that Agile Web Solutions appears to be giving away the iPhone/iPod Touch app for a limited time. So if you want to get a great deal on the iPhone/iPod Touch 1Password App, I suggest keeping a close eye on Agile Web Solutions 1Password blog for when they announce the release of the app. You can follow them on Twitter at “http://twitter.com/1Password”.
From the look of the screen shots they show, this is going to be one very useful and great iPhone/iPod Touch app!
By the way, if you are not already a 1Password user, I highly recommend it for protecting private data like Credit Card numbers and Social Security numbers so that you can have immediate access to that info no matter where you are. It also keeps track of website passwords too so that you can use more secure passwords without having to write them down or use less secure passwords. This also works via the iPhone/iPod Touch app that is soon to come out.

It’s been pretty difficult for me to post here recently. I have had a confluence of things happen in my life that is making very difficult to post.
For those who don’t know, I recently nabbed a new job after being out of work for just over 7 months. Also, my in-laws are here in St. Louis visiting. So I have had very little time to do much of anything other than work and visit.
Hopefully, next week will be different. My in-laws are returning to Texas on Monday and I’ll have more time after work to find something to post about or write a review of. Actually, as far as reviews go, I have a program in mind right now. I’ll have to leave myself a reminder to actually write the review up.
The job is with a company called Mobile Armor. We create software that helps protect laptop computers and smart phones so that if they are lost they can be destroyed remotely so that none of the data on the device will be seen by anyone who is not supposed to see. I came in at the beginning of a huge contract that if we succeed in winning it, will be an incredible boon for the company and be pretty much a first for the group that we are trying to woo. So I am pretty tired when I get home. This and the fact that I haven’t been in a “work” mode for over 7 months, it’s pretty draining right now. Hopefully, as time goes on, the company will hire some more folks to make our jobs a little easier.
