Posterous Blog

For a while now, I have been posting to a Posterous blog called “Dave Metzener’s Posterous” (yeah, I know, not very original) as well as this one. I use the Posterous blog for things I find that I just want to make a short comment on or highlight for others to see too.

I have 25 posts out there now, and more come at a rate of about 5-10 a week. Basically, when I find something that catches my eye, I want to comment on but the blog that posted the article doesn’t take comments, I want to remember for later, or is just downright interesting, I’ll post it there instead of my main blog.

This way, I can post about more things without having to bother finding artwork (I know I don’t have to, but I like posting artwork per post on this blog), or really doing much of any research.

Think of it as a glorified links blog for this site.

Welcome Back Mobigame!

2009.10.06

Its been quite some time and I’m sure a huge amount of hell for Mobigame, but Edge by Mobigame [$4.99] and Edge by Mobigame Lite [Free] are both back in the US AppStore!

It appears that one of the concessions to getting back in the AppStore was to change the name from “Edge” to “Edge by Mobigame”. Both apps are updates to the existing versions which claim “bug fixed” as to what was changed in them. No mention of the change in the names, but at least they didn’t have to get rid of the “Edge” part of the name.

Its a real shame that they have been away from the store for so long. The game is truly one of the most original games for the iPhone/iPod touch there was when it first came out. It still really is. Mobigame also offers the music in the game as a free download on their site and as music, it stands up really well and is quite enjoyable to listen to. I have it in my music library to listen to just to listen to it.

The game is a simple matter of getting your cube to the exit while collecting the small mini-cubes (as seen in the screen shot as that small yellow cube). Completing the level as quickly as possible.

The game currently has 48 levels, and if they stick around this time, hopefully they will be adding more and more levels as time goes on. This was something that they were doing before they had to leave the store.

Here’s hoping that they stick around this time and do very well.

macosxhints.com – See folder content previews in Quick Look in 10.5 and 10.6

2009.10.01

macosxhints.com – See folder content previews in Quick Look in 10.5 and 10.6: “Quick Look has a hidden feature that is not enabled by default, and can only be enabled through Terminal. Essentially, when ‘X-Ray mode’ is turned on, Quick Looking a folder will show, in a way, the contents of the folder.

xrayfolder.pngInstead of just seeing the regular folder icon in Quick Look, the folder icon will be semi-transparent, with previews of the folder’s contents visible in the Quick Look window, as seen in the image at right. What’s more, the preview images will rotate automatically, moving through each item in the folder (click the image to see a movie of the animation).

To turn this on, quit the Finder (using Activity Monitor, Terminal, etc.), then open Terminal and enter this command: $ defaults write com.apple.finder QLEnableXRayFolders 1 Relaunch the Finder, and enjoy the new folder X-Ray mode in Quick Look. If you ever want to disable it again, quit the Finder, then repeat the above Terminal command, but change the 1 to a 0. “

This is one of the best tips/tricks I have run across is a long time. Not only do you get to see thumbs of whats in the folder, but they cycle through all the files. New image start at the top and slide under as new images arrive. Its a great effect and something I am going to keep on my machnes.
